Adaptive Learning Application Re-Engineering for a Faith-tech Company

About the Client

Study Aloud is a US-based startup on a mission to help people engage with the Bible in a more meaningful and interactive way. Their vision is to make Scripture accessible to anyone, anywhere, through personalized and adaptive learning experiences.

To bring this vision to life, the team partnered with Edvantis to improve and complete their existing iOS application, turning it into a reliable and engaging platform for Bible learners around the world.

Challenge

When Study Aloud approached us, their app was facing several challenges that were slowing down its release to the Apple Store:

• Key functionality needed for the initial launch was still missing
• Stability issues and frequent crashes affected the user experience
• Parts of the UI and UX design remained unfinished
• There was no clear backlog or development roadmap in place

As a result, the app wasn’t yet able to deliver the seamless learning experience the client envisioned for their users.

Team size and Composition

To help move the project forward, we assembled a dedicated team consisting of a Tech Lead, a Senior Software Engineer, a Senior Test Engineer (part-time), and a Project Coordinator.

Solution

Over the next 3–4 months, our team worked closely with Study Aloud to stabilize the application, introduce new functionality, and prepare the product for launch.

Strengthening the Foundation

We started by addressing the app’s technical challenges:

• Eliminated crashes and fixed critical bugs to improve stability
• Reworked parts of the architecture to make future development and maintenance more efficient
• Established a more structured development process and backlog management approach

Adding New Features

To create a richer and more engaging learning experience, we introduced several new capabilities:

• Improved the Read Mode Drawer for smoother navigation
• Added advanced note-taking tools, including highlighting, multi-selection, and in-text notesImplemented bookmarking so users could easily save passages for later
• Enabled sharing multiple Scripture passages with a single tap
• Introduced multilingual support directly within the reading experience
• Enhanced journaling and reflection journeys, including custom labels for better organization

Improving the User Experience

We also redesigned several key sections of the application to make them more intuitive and user-friendly:

• Notifications
• Settings
• User profiles

At the heart of the solution is a personalized learning environment that combines reading, note-taking, reflection, and content organization in one seamless experience. Users can highlight passages, take notes, bookmark important content, and continue their learning journey across devices. Features such as content sharing and multilingual support make Scripture exploration more interactive, accessible, and engaging.

Results

By the end of the project, Study Aloud had a stable, feature-rich application ready for launch.
