How Edvantis Helped Transform Swedish Public Transportation with Innovative Payment Solutions
Stockholm’s Lokaltrafik AB (SL), a publicly owned transit company serving all public transportation needs in Stockholm County, wanted to create a sustainable transportation system to make Stockholm Europe’s most attractive metropolitan region. To bring this vision to life, SL was looking for a technology partner to develop a platform validator as well as a new portable ticketing device for their conductors.
SL has collaborated with Modulsystem, a leading ticketing and payment system provider in Scandinavia, for the delivery of specific components of the ticketing solution. Following a thorough evaluation process, Edvantis was selected as their project partner. Together, we developed a connected ticketing device that enhances the daily travel experience for up to 1 million passengers.
Together we:
- Designed a payment device that acts as a cash register, an e-ticketing machine, and a validator for SL transport cards
- Integrated third-party applications, broadening the device's capabilities for both passengers and conductors
- Established point-of-sale (POS) capabilities, enabled validation and payments through EMV, White label, and Aztec codes
- Implemented a flexible app architecture, allowing sysadmins to tailor the device to the needs of different transport operators
This collaboration not only helped Stockholm's Lokaltrafik meet the stringent requirements set by the Swedish Work Environment Authority but also allowed them to pioneer an innovative connected ticketing solution.
