About the Client

Builtgenix LLC is an architectural agency that wanted to improve their processes of working with architectural documents. They were looking for partner to digitize and automate BOM generation to reduce manual labor, improve accuracy, and provide real-time access to BOM data and 3D models.

Challenge

Agency customers submit PDF files containing architectural documents, which architects then use to create detailed architectural plans using the Revit application. They also perform calculations for the bill of materials (BOM) and provide the BOM to the customer in PDF or Excel format.

The opportunity lied in automating the Bill of Materials (BOM) generation process and making it accessible online, addressing the problem of manual, time-consuming BOM calculations and the inefficiency of traditional document exchanges.

Main Goals

The project’s primary objectives were to:

• Develop a Revit plugin to extract relevant architectural data automatically
• Implement a proprietary data extraction algorithm for accurate BOM generation
• Create an API for web integration to provide real-time access to BOMs and 3D models
• Reduce the overall BOM processing time

Solution

To replace the client’s slow and manual BOM workflow, Edvantis designed and implemented a complete automation system that connected architectural design files directly to a client-facing web portal.

We developed a custom Revit plugin that automatically extracts key material and quantity data from 3D architectural models. This data is processed using a proprietary algorithm to generate accurate Bills of Materials. The results are sent in real time to a secure online portal, where clients can view, download, or request updates to their BOMs and 3D plans.

We also created the backend infrastructure and APIs to store BOM data, support client-specific configurations, and integrate feedback into future versions.

As a result, the BOM generation process became significantly faster and more reliable, reducing turnaround time from 8 days to just 3–4, and improving data accuracy across the board.
